Healthy weight for cats: spotting and fixing obesity
Simple body-condition checks and feeding tweaks to keep your cat trim.
Extra weight shortens a cat's life and raises the risk of diabetes, joint pain and urinary problems. You should be able to feel your cat's ribs easily and see a slight waist from above — if not, it's time to act.
Measure meals instead of free-feeding, switch to a vet-recommended diet if needed, and cut back on treats. Encourage movement with play and food puzzles. Aim for slow, steady loss — crash dieting is dangerous for cats and can cause serious liver disease.
